Nerja becomes the next town in the Axarquía to penalize ‘beach hoggers’.

Torrox, Algarrobo, and now Nerja follow its other European counterparts in imposing fines on those caught using their belongings to reserve and save the best beach spots for an extended period of time. Ones will soon be penalized if caught leaving chairs or parasols etc to reserve prime areas on the beach. The idea behind such deterrents is to prevent noted issues such as arguments between rival sun bathers, with some even going as far as to cause violent confrontations.

On the list of actions resulting in fines from the town hall are, creating sculptures in the sand without permission, camping and building fires on the beach. These among other local laws are expected to be in place and carried out before next summer!

  1. Would this include leaving your towel etc on a sunbed, that has been paid for the day, to go to lunch or to the toilet?
