Norwegian Air Shuttle wins Top Award

Following the deregulation of the aviation industry in Europe in 1997 and the arrival of Ryanair on the scene in 1984, we have all become aware of the budget no-frills airlines that allow us to fly around Europe for less than the cost of an intercity rail fare.

During the annual ATW Airline Industry Achievement Awards held in Dublin last week low-cost carrier Norwegian Air Shuttle was named best ‘Value Airline of the Year’ for 2018.

When accepting the award, CEO and Founder of Norwegian Air Shuttle Bjørn Kjos said: “To be named Value Airline of the Year is a major accomplishment for the entire Norwegian team – and I am extremely proud of all our dedicated employees. Our airline was founded on the premise that everyone should be able to afford to fly, and with each new market, we enter, we are able to demonstrate Norwegian’s value and offer even more people affordable fares and high-quality service.”

Norwegian has raised the bar when it comes to budget travel by being the first airline since Freddie Lakers now defunct Laker Airways to offer low-cost flights between Europe and North America.

The Airline of the Year Award went to Japans All Nippon Airways (ANA) with Hong Kong’s Chek Lap Kok Airport winning the best international airport in the world title.
