   Tasty food and friendly staff. The chicken is realy good. But the durgers are so good you can’t stop at just one.

   Having just returned from another visit to Nerja we were gutted when we found that the Restaurante California was closed.It looked like it may have sustained fire damage but we couldn’t be sure.Does anybody know the reason why it is closed?

     Can’t answer that question but in Jul 2011 we also went, and were really looking forward to going to the restaurant, but it was closed still. It looked like the outside had been completely re-rendered, and when on the top terrace of Scarlettas, three doors up, I looked over to the terrace of The California, and it looked like that had all been re-rendered too.

   I heard that it has been taken over by Pinocchio’s a little further up the street, but don’t know if this is in addition to their existing restaurant, or a replacement. Wouldn’t have thought replacement as their existing restaurant is a good size and does well.

   We have just got back from two weeks in Nerja. The restaurant California has been completely refurbished and is now open under new Spanish ownership.

   We have been to Nerja at least once a year for the last ten years and we have been to the restaurant at least once during our stays.

   We tried it once during this holiday, under the new management, and must say we will not be back again. The menu has some familiar dishes, however, we did not enjoy the burgers we ordered or our starters. The mixed grill that I loved is no longer on the menu. But this is only our opinion…..

   The newly refurbished ‘California’ is under the same management as ‘Pinnochios’. We visit Nerja 2 to 3 times a year and this was our first visit to the ‘California’. The food and service was excellent, it’s great to have new restaurants in Nerja with ‘vision’ ! Thank you, see you at New Year.
