Italica
Plaza Cavana
29780 Nerja
Small, friendly cafe/bar in Plaza Cavana in the heart of Nerja, not far from the Balcón de Europa.
Food is also served, both tapas and larger meals, and there is a dining area inside at the back of the bar.
A cup of coffee is currently €1.20 (May 2010).

A really friendly small cafe-bar that does a wide range of drinks and food at good prices. Very traditional and in a great central position that is something of a sun-trap at times. It’s a gem of a place for people watching. The staff are also great, especially Miguel who is the loveliest person ever with a dazzling smile. Do sample the tapas. If you are lucky and a regular you may get them for free.
Still OK but out of season is a bit dull and no tapas. Service very inconsistent and shame they don’t value their regulars. No-one can afford to be complacent in current economic climate and with so much competition. Recent visit (9th) a let-down sadly.
I used to be a dedicated fan of this bar and as a regular expect warm welcome back each time but on my last visit I was very disappointed. Out of season it is quiet but no excuse for lack of attention and poor service by disinterested staff. I took friends there and we were virtually ignored and had to go to the bar to order and pay! Such a pity they fail to value their loyal and good customers. However, plenty of competition and their loss I’m afraid. I won’t be recommending again.
Pleased to say that on return visit in 2012 Italica back to what I remember – a traditional cafe-bar with a prime position for people watching and great sun spot. Change of staff (lovely ladies) and Miguel making appearances makes all the difference! Keep doing what you do well.
