Domingo's Angel, Jenny TwistDomingo’s Angel by Jenny Twist.

When Angela turns up in a remote Spanish mountain village, she is so tall and so thin and so pale that everyone thinks she is a ghost or a fairy or the dreadful mantequero that comes in the night and sucks the fat from your bones.

But Domingo knows better. “Soy Angela,” she said to him when they met – “I am an angel.” Only later did he realise that she was telling him her name and by then it was too late and everyone knew her as Domingo’s Angel.

This is the story of their love affair. But it is also the story of the people of the tiny mountain village – the indomitable Rosalba – shopkeeper, doctor, midwife and wise woman, who makes it her business to know everything that goes on in the village; Guillermo, the mayor, whose delusions of grandeur are rooted in his impoverished childhood; and Salva the Baker, who risked his life and liberty to give bread to the starving children.

The events in this story are based on the real experiences of the people of the White Villages in Southern Spain and their struggle to keep their communities alive through the years of war and the oppression of Franco’s rule. Domingo’s Angel

Tales of the AlhambraTales of the Alhambra by Washington Irving. In this book, Washington Irving (1783-1859), considered by many to be the “Father of American literature” and “the best English language writer of his time”, relates the fascinating popular myths relating to the Alhambra, which he collected during his visit to Spain in 1829. The writer had the privilege of living in the Alhambra itself while writing the book and, after some research in the Granada University Library archives, he created a literary recreation written by a romantic traveller enraptured by the beauty of Granada, its landscape and its people. Includes 32 pages of full colour illustrations and photos of the Alhambra and its surroundings as well as period engravings. There are often secondhand copies (English, Spanish, German) in the Nerja Book Centre in calle Granada, Nerja….Tales of the Alhambra

Wendy CarmellLocal Torrox resident Wendy Cartmell has just published her crime novel Steps to Heaven in eBook format. This is the first book in the Sgt Major Crane series.

Crane is a Special Investigations Branch Detective in the British Army, based at Aldershot Garrison. Crane is disturbed by the horrific case of a soldier called Solomon who, after recently returning from Afghanistan, murdered his wife and 6 year old son and then committed suicide.

It seems Solomon was attending a local Church, which encourages people to join by offering salvation to its members. But as Crane investigates and the body count rises, events take a darker turn and he wonders what the Church is offering – salvation, or slaughter?

Wendy had to take early retirement from teaching due to ill health and moved to the Costa del Sol.

My inspiration for the Sgt Major Crane novels has been my love of crime writing (which I read voraciously) and my husband’s 22 years service in the British Army. So with a deep breath and fingers crossed I have finally decided to publish! Your feedback would be welcomed and if you enjoy the book, please recommend it to a friend.

Support your local author by downloading it now from Amazon for under a £1. You don’t need a Kindle. The eBook is available in multiple formats and can even be downloaded to your computer. Steps to Heaven (Amazon). You can visit her website at: www.wendycartmell.webs.com
