The first week of September in Almáchar (Saturday September 5th in 2009) is the Fiesta del Ajoblanco. The 2009 fiesta is the 41st edition of this annual event.
The Fiesta del Ajoblanco attracts around 10,000 people each year and has been declared a ‘festival of national tourist interest’.
Around 2,000 litres of ajoblanco (a sort of broth) are on offer as well as grapes, raisins and, naturally, plenty of Muscatel wine.
At 21:00 it is time for the Noche Flamenca.
From midnight, it becomes party time with a concert, dancing, sangria and tapas. And everything is free!
