Languages of Spain

Spanish (Español / Castellano) is the official language of the country, although several regional languages are recognised both under the Spanish Constitution and the Statutes of Autonomy.

In some cases, these regional languages are the primary language in their respective geographical areas.

  • Aranese (Aranés)
  • Basque (Euskera)
  • Catalan/Valencian (Catalá)
  • Galician (Galego)

Several other historic languages survive, although they have no official status.
