The Día de la Sopa Mondeña takes place in the early part of March in the town of Monda, Andalucia.

A traditional event, it honours one of the most characteristic dishes of the municipality which is closely linked to work in the fields. It was a common dish among farmers and mineworkers in the area.

The soup is made from bread, fried peppers, garlic, oil, eggs and a peculiar type of tomato which is ‘hung’ and lasts throughout the year.

During the fiesta, helpings of this dish are cooked in a huge pan nearly one and a half metres in diameter.

The celebrations begin at 11:00 and continue throughout the day with crafts markets, stalls selling local products and various musical performances taking place.
