F is for Flamenco

F is for Flamenco. Flamenco is a peculiarly Spanish form of folk music and dance originating in the Andalucia region in southern Spain and includes cante (singing), toque (guitar playing), baile (dance) and palmas (handclaps).

Flamenco, which can be an acquired taste, has grown in popularity throughout the world and in 2010 was declared one of the ‘Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity’ by UNESCO.

There are regular Flamenco shows in Nerja at El Colono restaurant (every Wednesday), El Burro Blanco (late evenings), Hotel Nerja Club (mainly in the summer), Merendero Ayo (weekly in the summer months) and El Molino (nightly, late).
