The Mountains of Nerja

Walking and hiking in the hills around Nerja is a popular pastime, both with residents and visitors to the area, but to get the best out of your excursions and to find new routes, it helps if you have a good guide book.

‘The Mountains of Nerja’ by Jim Ryan is just one such book and it contains detailed descriptions of 24 walking routes through the Sierras de Tejeda, Almijara ay Alhama. And it fits nicely in the pocket. It measures 16.8 x 11.6 x 1 cm.

You can get the book via Amazon by clicking on the book image here.

The book begins with short explanations about the geography of the area, the location and history of Nerja, when to go, accommodation, flora and fauna and numerous other pieces of interesting and useful information.

We then get into the walks themselves, twenty-four in total, graded to suit all levels and abilities. Each walk not only includes detailed walking instructions and maps, but also numerous colour photos, useful little titbits of information and details of flora and fauna your are likely to encounter on your trek.

The routes vary from gentle strolls to strenuous climbs, so there is something for everyone. An excellent little book, well presented, sufficient detail and an ideal walking companion.

Jim Ryan is a chartered civil engineer with a passion for the outdoors who has spent over fifteen years climbing and walking the hills around Nerja. He now divides his time between Cork in Ireland and Nerja in Spain.
