Andalucía, a vast region of wide open spaces, has an abundance of wildlife. It is a birdwatcher’s paradise, especially in the spring, as it lies on one of the main migratory routes.
Just a few minutes from any town or village and you are in the wide open countryside and if you keep your eyes peeled, you never know what you might see.

At the recent Festival of 3 Cultures in Frigiliana, a troupe of birds of prey were putting on a series of performances and I managed to catch up with them while they were taken a well deserved break on a grassy embankment.

It was a very windy day down at the beach today and the gulls were either almost hovering as they tried to make headway into the wind, or shooting past like bullets if they decided just to go with the flow.
On the one hand the wind made taking pictures of flying birds a lot easier, on the other it was very difficult to keep the camera reasonably steady – forget about still, completely out of the question – during the constant buffeting. More

Wandering through the undergrowth I came across a baby robin perched on a branch.
After taking a few shots, I was still searching for him in the viewfinder when a whispered voice said, ‘Don’t move, he’s right by your feet’. No wonder I couldn’t find him. A very cute little birdie. More
