Jacaranda in bloom

Jacaranda, NerjaThe Jacaranda are in bloom, adding a lovely bit of colour to a dull, overcast day. The Jacaranda is a genus of 49 species of flowering plants in the family Bignoniaceae and are native to the tropical and subtropical regions of South America and the Caribbean.

The species are shrubs to large trees and can vary in height from anywhere between 2 metres to 30 metres tall. The fruit is a flattened capsule containing numerous slender seeds.

There are seven or eight Jacaranda in Plaza La Marina, all blooming at the moment, as well as others in avenida Castilla Perez, calle Carmen (next to the Iglesia El Salvador), Parque Verano Azul and numerous other areas of town.
