ETA bomb attack in Torremolinos

ETA last night detonated a small bomb on the beach in Torremolinos.

The device had been placed near to a pedestrian footbridge close to the hotel Aloha Puerto and exploded just after midnight. No-one was injured in the explosion although a couple of people were treated for shock.

At first it was thought that the explosion had been caused by a gas bottle in one of the nearby kiosks but an investigation revealed that it was in fact a bomb. Police cordoned off the area and bomb disposal experts began a search in case there was a second device.

There had been no warning of the attack. According to documentation found by police when they arreseted members of the ‘comando Vizcaya’ recently, ETA had been planning a summer bombing campaign along the Andalucían coast, targets thought to be hotels and shopping malls.
