When officials finally got to see the man listed as Tokyo’s oldest living male, aged 111 years, as part of their updating of a  list of centenarians ahead of Respect for the Elderly Day in September, they found Sogen Kato neatly tucked up in bed.

Unfortunately, Kato has been dead for 30 years.
