Real Madrid have won the Copa del Rey, beating Barcelona 2-1 in Valencia.
Angel Di Maria put Real Madrid ahead after just ten minutes as play went from end to end. Barcelona, as usual, dominated possession but with much less fluency than in the past and failing to create too many chances.
Messi was not his usual self in the first half and Neymar had a shocking game, seemingly more content to tumble for free kicks than do anything creative.
In the second half, Bartra equalised for Barcelona with a stunning header, powerful and beautifully directed, and then Gareth Bale stole the show with one of his wonder goal. Even being barged off the pitch couldn’t stop him showing a clean pair of heels to the defenders and he toe-poked home for what was to be the winning goal.
So, first trophy of the season for Real.
