Autopsy reveals Ana María Márquez was stabbed 70 times

An autopsy carried out on Ana María Márquez, the director of the Nerja History Museum who was tragically killed on Friday at her home in Torrox, reportedly shows that she was stabbed around 70 times and also suffered several blows.

Initial visual examinations carried out on the day of her death suggested she had been stabbed at least twenty times.

The autopsy also revealed a number of earlier wounds, suggesting that Ana María Márquez had been the subject of violent abuse for some time. Her family were apparently totally unaware of the situation.

The detainee, the partner of Ana María Márquez, is 41-year-old Miguel Martínez, a bar owner in Córdoba, who has a prior history of abuse with a former partner. Police found him in the living room, covered in blood, and he apparently claimed that it was he who had been attacked and that he had acted in self-defence.

The body of Ana María Márquez was found in the bathtub, with a 30 centimetre kitchen knife by her side. She was alive when police officers first entered the apartment but, despite their best efforts to stem the flow of blood, she died shortly after.

There has been speculation that Ana María Márquez was pregnant, but this has not yet been confirmed and is still under investigation. It has been reported that neighbours heard the couple arguing about this matter.

On Saturday, around five hundred people gathered in Plaza de España, Nerja, to pay their respects and to condemn the latest senseless act of domestic violence.

One hopes that the perpetrator of this offence gets what he deserves. An extremley long term of custody
