Vélez-Málaga Council announces major projects

Is there a whiff of elections in the air? Vélez-Málaga Council has agreed loans of 4 million euros to finance a number of major projects, including a new access road to the hospital.

A new access road to the Hospital Comarcal is planned, the idea being to reduce congestion in the El Tomillar area. The new road will run along the back of the hospital and connect with Avenida Juan Carlos I near the storage facility for municipal vehicles. The project is currently budgeted at 1.15 million euros and is scheduled to start in 2015.

Also planned is the redevelopment of the Camino de Torrox, the road joining Vélez-Málaga with La Caleta. The total cost of this project is expected to be in the region of 1.4 million euros.

Other projects under consideration include the pedestrianisation of calle del Mar in Torre del Mar, the re-urbanisation of Custodio Puga and Pilar de San Roque plus improvements to municipal buildings, beaches and replacement of urban street furniture.

It was widely expected and predicted that many municipalities would now begin announcing major projects in the run-up to the municipal elections next year.
