Fresh and stale…

Just when you think there could potentially be a breath of fresh air on the political scene with the rapid rise of a new party, Podemos, they go and spoil it.

At their first party conference in November 2014, Podemos will apparently be considering and voting on making political pacts with IU or one or more of the other minor parties. Those minor parties are, of course, usually minor for very good reasons, such as very few people vote for them and/or their policies are not very good.

They do at least intend to make any vote on the matter by the membership of Podemos binding on the leadership, regardless of whether those leaders agree or not. Hopefully they will vote ‘no’. No point in having a breath of fresh air if it is then going to be polluted with the established stale (or hot) air.

Podemos have not yet really formulated any real policies or manifestos so they could, of course, turn out not to be a breath of fresh air but just another set of self-serving career politicians whose ambition is a cushy number on the EU gravy train.

Ah well.
