New Financial Plan approved in order to qualify for provincial funding

Nerja Council has had to present and approve a new Municipal Financial Economic Plan in order to qualify for the €347,277 provincial funding to cover projects already announced, such as improvements to the Pepe Bobadilla football field and the purchase of vehicles for the collection of solid waste.

To qualify for the provincial funds, municipalities must meet certain criteria, such as be up to date with tax and Social Security obligations, present a year end surplus and be within the average period stipulated for payments to municipal suppliers.

It is in this last category that Nerja failed to meet its obligations and, therefore, the Council has had to submit a new Financial Plan.

According to the Council, the reasons for failing to pay suppliers within the legally specified period of thirty days are administrative and not financial. The Council reports that it will meet these requirements before the end of the year.

Apparently, the Council has had three different Financial Controllers in the past three years and this has not helped the situation.
