Man City 1-2 Barcelona

Luis Suarez scored twice as Barcelona beat Manchester City 1-2 in their Champions League last-16 first leg encounter on Tuesday night.

After a promising first few minutes from City, Barcelona quickly took over and dominated the first half, not letting their opponents see much of the ball at all. Messi orchestrated proceedings and Suarez found the net twice within the first thirty minutes.

City improved in the second half, they had to if they were to have any chance of progressing in the competition, and it was a much more even affair. Aguero pulled one back for City in the 69th minute, but their hopes suffered a setback a few minutes later when Clichy was dismissed after picking up a second yellow card for a rash tackle.

In the final minute, Barcelona were awarded a penalty after Zabaleta bundled Messi to the ground inside the area. Hart blocked the penalty kick and Messi headed the rebound wide of the open goal. Had Messi scored, Barcelona would have been almost home and dry. As it is, City now have an outside chance of progressing, but they will have to improve all round.

Juventus also take a narrow lead into the second leg after a 2-1 win over Borussia Dortmund. Carlos Tevez put Juve ahead after 13 minutes, only to see Reus equalise five minutes later.

Morata scored what would turn out to be the winning goal just before the break.
