Nerja’s climate and its athletic club facilities has received another endorsement over the last few days with Norwegian high jumper Katarina Mogenburg choosing to use the Nerja athletics stadium as her warm weather training base. Katarina has a personal best jump of 1.88 metres and is the daughter of german Olympic gold medal winner Dietmar Mogenburg who won the men’s high jump event in Los Angeles, 1984. Dietmar is now Katarina’s coach and he has also been in Nerja to oversee his daughter’s training program at the Enrique Lopez Cuenca sports complex on Calle Pescia.
Gema Garcia, the councillor for Sports in Nerja has reported how the facilities in Nerja are increasingly being used by many elite athletes from many countries including Sweden, Germany, Norway and England with many more expected to visit this year.
So keep your eyes open and phone cam handy when around town, if someone looks a bit like Usain Bolt…. you never know, it might just be him!!
