Playazo Beach Development

The development of the Playazo beach area of Nerja has been under the spotlight at the recent conference held at the Municipal Exhibition Hall in Calle Cristo and organised by the AEN (Association of Nerja Businesses).

The plan for the development for the Playazo beach and it’s surrounding area has been taken very seriously by the Mayor of Nerja, Jose Albert Armijo, who has stated that this project is a key part of the future of tourism in Nerja and care and responsibility should characterise the development.

The plan includes the extension of the Playazo beach by 70,000 square metres and a full pedestrian promenade of over 1km to be built, along with a beach sports area and beach restaurants and bars. An area for new hotels has been planned along with a large residential area.

There goes the neighbourhood! Why “develop” this charming area? Part of its attraction is that it’s relatively unspoilt, and it’s a pleasure to stroll along the beach to a chiringuito or bar. Does everything have to be covered in concrete and bricks these days? How will the beach be extended by 70,000 square metres? It sounds horrendous

  2. NO NO NO NO …. Please leave this area alone!! These natural parts of Nerja are why we keep returning year after year!! Please don’t turn Nerja into a ‘Plastic’ Marbella, Puerto Banus kind of place .. Leave Nerja alone!!

  3. Eanna Brophy says:

This is a death-knell for the Nerja we love. Looks like they want to turn the place into another Burriana -overcrowded and lacking any distinctive character. One might as well go to Marbella in future.
