Faster than a speeding pullet

July 21st, 2010

Scott Linstead goes to great lengths to get wildlife photos and, although some of the pictures are actually staged, the results are stunning.

The Chameleon and the Jesus Lizard are particularly spectacular…Scott Linsteads High-Speed Photos

Tern over

July 20th, 2010

Animals are not much different from humans in many ways, except maybe a bit better behaved as a general rule. Nice pictures of a young tern biting off a bit more than he could chew….Ambitious bird

Mother tern looks like she just can’t believe her eyes.

Over and out

July 7th, 2010

A group of 15 monkeys showed great initiative as they made their great escape from Kyoto University’s primate research institute in Aichi Prefecture, catapulting themselves one by one over a 17 foot electric fence surrounding their compound.

The monkeys used the branches of trees to fling themselves over the fence. It is thought that the group may have had a disagreement with other monkeys in the compound and decided to leave.

However, once outside, they seemed not to know what to do next and remained by the gate. Scientists at the institute managed to tempt them back inside with an offering of peanuts. The trees near the fence have now been cut down to prevent further escapes.

Playtime

There are also a couple of photos of a kingfisher diving to catch dinner for the family. Amazing how such strange looking young turn into such beautiful creatures.

Unusual catch

June 3rd, 2010

A rather surprised Chinese fisherman caught this strange creature, an alligator snapping turtle, in a lake in southern China.

The creature is not native to China and is thought to have been a pet which was subsequently set free. It is only native to the USA….Alligator snapping turtle.
