EQUO, the Green Party, are organising a walk to the barranco de los Colmenarejos (Colmenarejos ravine) on Sunday to highlight the unacceptable conditions surrounding an abandoned quarry.

Committees being set up to establish the Nerja-Torrox boundary

The municipalities of Nerja and Torrox have initiated contact to establish the boundaries between the two municipalities, an exercise which requires the setting up of committees in both towns.

New opening times for the Foreigners Department

The Foreigners Department at the Town Hall is now only open on Thursdays from 10:00 to 14:00. Previously it was open on Tuesday and Thursday mornings.

New local mayoral representatives

The Council has approved the appointment of mayoral representatives, or local mayors, for the Barriada de los Poetas, Barriada de las Protegidas, Río de la Miel and Cantarriján.

Third edition of Mi primer concierto en la Cueva

The Council is preparing to stage the third ‘Mi primer concierto en la Cueva’ (My First Concert in the Caves), a musical and educational programme of eleven concerts to be held in the Nerja Caves.

On Thursday February 9th at 20:30 there is a poetry recital by Karmelo Iribarren at the Municipal Exhibition Hall in calle Cristo, the show being part of the ‘Palabras en la noche’ series being organised by the Centro Cultural Generación del 27.

Poster exhibition at the Sala Mercado

There is an exhibition of Amnesty International posters by Carlos Santiago at the Sala Mercado, calle San Miguel, from now until February 24th. The exhibition is open Monday to Friday from 17:00 to 20:00.

Kiosks for 2012

From Wednesday February 8th to Monday February 20th is the period to make  applications for the seasonal kiosks in various parts of the town, this year covering the extended period from March 30th to October 15th.

Council to ask the Junta to pay its debt to the Taller de la Amistad

The Councillor for Social Services and Employment, Encarnación Moreno, is again asking the Junta de Andalucia to pay the debt it owes to the Special Employment Centre Friendship Workshop, Taller de la Amistad, which amounts €121,109.

Rubbish containers being repaired

The Department of Cleaning and Urban Ecology has started to repair some of the underground rubbish containers, some having deteriorated over time, others having been vandalised.

Cave paintings could be oldest in Europe

An analysis of organic remains found near the prehistoric paintings in the Nerja Caves has determined that these artistic representations may be more than 40,000 years old, which would make them the oldest known so far in Europe.

Workshops for Nerja

According to the Council, Nerja will shortly have both a school and employment workshop, each covering areas such geriatric care, service dynamisation, citizen information and attention, gardening and stage design.
