Beaches, TDT and Day of the Tourist…

September 2nd, 2010

Calahonda beach, NerjaThe temperatures may have plummeted a couple of degrees but it is still hot and there is still no wind to speak of. The main noticeable difference with the onset of September is, of course, the ability to actually find a parking space should you so desire. more »

Local grapes…

September 2nd, 2010

Private Enterprise, NerjaToday, the man selling fruit and veggies on his patio had some tubs of lovely looking Moscatel grapes at €1.50 a kilo so decided to give them a go. Deeelicious. Cheaper than grapes in the supermarkets at the moment and extremely tasty. Oranges at the moment, while quite juicy, seem to be rather chewy and stringy. Or at least the bag I bought was. more »

Musical evening…

September 2nd, 2010

A musical treat on Friday September 3rd at Venta Madrid with singer Nito Inza and guitarists Carlos Gutiérrez and Manuel Muñóz will be singing and playing some great pieces from the likes of Paco de Lucia and Tomatito.

Alegrias, fandangos, soleares and boleros are all on the menu, as are some great typical Andalucian tapas. The music starts at around 20:30.

Crisis cutbacks?…

August 30th, 2010

The continuing financial crisis has obviously led to cutbacks and shortages right throughout the construction industry.

Business as usual…

August 30th, 2010

El Salon beach, NerjaIt may have been cloudy and overcast yesterday but it was still business as usual on the beaches. Although it was predicted that temperatures would drop as from today, it doesn’t seem to be the case as yet.

However, having said that, when there was a hint of a breeze early this morning it did seem to have an icy edge to it. Can’t really complain about the odd cloudy day, though. more »

The inconsiderate…

August 30th, 2010

Dog poop, NerjaOne gets the distinct impression that the only ones acting with any kind of ‘vigour’ are the inconsiderate animal owners and their pets. Other countries in Europe have successfully introduced special areas where animals can go about their natural business with no problems for the general public.

August 27th 2010…

August 28th, 2010

Calahonda beach, NerjaBar Feliz on prolongacion Antonio Millón is changing hands again, or has changed hands in fact. Los Barriles was absolutely packed early yesterday evening. At one stage, loads of people were having to abandon their attempts to get in.

The fiery chorizos are certainly popular and such a simple idea. Just about everyone had a piggypot in front of them. more »

Less police presence?…

August 28th, 2010

Saw a couple of Local Police officers on the Balcon de Europa last night and it got me thinking that this year there seems to have been far less of a police presence than in previous years.

There were always cops, either normal or trafico, at the calle Diputación/avenida Castilla Perez junction to catch the unwary or those parked illegally in the taxi rank/loading bays, but hardly seen any this summer.

There were a couple of days of intense activity handing out parking tickets, but apart from that, very little. As for the ‘vigorous’ campaign by the Poop Squad, well, it must have been postponed. Maybe they’re all out somewhere on their new bikes.

Crafts market…

August 26th, 2010

Although the crafts market in the Plaza de España was, according to one notice, supposed to be open mornings from 10:00 to 14:00 and then from 19:00 to 22:00, there was nothing open at 11:00 this morning and by 12:15 only two stands had appeared.

It looks like the crafts market is probably going to be the main daytime attraction for the Day of the Tourist on September 3rd although precise information on the event is hard to come by, as usual.

Hot August night…

August 25th, 2010

Balcon de Europa, NerjaThe Balcon de Europa was, as one would expect at this time of year, a hive of activity throughout the evening and into the night. Apart from anything, the lack of any wind at the moment, unusual for August, means it’s actually cooler to be outside than inside.

Only one busker, an accordion player, milling around. Just a couple of regulars these days, not the variety as in the past which is a bit of a shame. No tango dancers, either. more »

On the rocks…

August 25th, 2010

Torrecilla beach, NerjaHad a nice wander along the rocky promontory at the end of Torrecilla beach, a great place to relax away from the general hubbub (apparently one of the few words of Celtic origin to be incorporated in the English language). Yesterday, although the beach was packed, there was no-one on the rocks, not even fishermen. Most unusual. more »

Let there be music…

August 25th, 2010

Bar Viva Nerja is starting up again with ‘live’ music, starting tonight, Wednesday, with Silver Fox. The music will be from 8pm to 11pm and hopefully no denuncias this time.

Thursday night at Venta Madrid in Torrox is ‘live’ music with Leo, which will be Spanish, Flamenco and classical guitar. Starts at 8pm.

A bit close…

August 24th, 2010

Torrecilla beach, Nerja, slickNot at all sure whether this was animal (and if so, what species), mineral or vegetable, but it was very close to shore today at the promontory at the end of Torrecilla beach.

It didn’t seem to bother the fish, though, hundreds of them swarming around. more »

While the cats are away…

August 21st, 2010

NerjaThe junction of calle Diputación and avenida Castilla Perez was always a regular haunt for the local Trafico police but they have been conspicuous by their absence recently. Hence loads of people taking advantage of the situation by parking on the corner, stopping in the middle of the street or occupying the area reserved, in the evening, for taxis.

Flamenco at Venta Madrid…

August 21st, 2010

It is flamenco tonight at the cafe-bar Venta Madrid in Torrox, starting at around 21:30.
