Major Supermarkets in Nerja

Mercadona

The Mercadona supermarket is located about half way up calle San Miguel, opposite the Guardia Civil station.

It has it's own underground car park (quite tight if you have a big car or a 4x4) and there is also ample parking behind the supermarket. To get to the car park, you either have to approach from the N-340 and turn right just before the bus station or take calle Puente Viejo (exit from the Supersol roundabout at the western end of town), go down to the riverbed and then turn right into a large car parking area. You can then either remain parked here or take the small road to the left which will take you up to Mercadona itself and its own car park.

The supermarket stocks a wide range of foodstuffs including its own brand, marked 'hacendado'. These are much cheaper than similar 'brand named' products and generally of at least equal quality.

The supermarket also carries a variety of 'gluten free' products, including breakfast cereals.

Mas

The Mas supermarket is located on calle Antonio Ferrandis, almost next to the Parque Verano Azul. There is ample parking in the area, including in the park itself.

The supermarket stocks a wide range of foodstuffs and has both a meat and fish counter. It also has an excellent fruit and veg counter. You can get a free Mas card for accumulating 'shopping points' which you can later redeem for selected products. There are invariably a number of special offers floating around (buy one get one free, buy two cartons of milk and get a free pair of socks, you know the sort of thing) which are well worth investigating.

There is also a very good cafeteria with an outside terrace and a fresh bread/cakes section.

Supersol

Supersol, Nerja

There are two large Supersol supermarkets in Nerja, one at each end of town. The one at the western end, at the roundabout as you come into town over the cobbled bridge, also has a downstairs section with non-food items such as electrical goods (including TV's, fridges, stereos, microwaves etc), clothes, gardening stuff, terrace furniture, toys, books, stationery etc etc.

Again, a wide range of foodstuffs including some UK products. Supersol also have their own products which are generally cheaper than the equivalent 'brand named' items and just as good. Plenty of special offers, notably 3 for the price of 2 type things. There is a meat counter, fish counter and charcuterie.

Bread is baked on the premises and the fresh bread counter is on the right just before you go into the main shopping area. The 'pan de pueblo' is particularly delicious, especially when fresh out of the oven and still warm!

Downstairs you will also find a cafeteria/bar and they do a pretty good value 'menu del dia' as well as tapas and other snacks.

This supermarket has its own underground car park. Again, can be a bit tight if you have a big car or a 4x4.

At the eastern end, up by the Sports Stadium on the N-340 coast road heading towards Maro, is the second Supersol, also with its own, large car park.

Very similar, as one would expect, to the one above except it does not have a non-food section. There is a small cafeteria section, quite limited, just inside the building and a kiosk which stocks a good selection of foreign newspapers.

Iranzo

Iranzo, Nerja

This supermarket, with its own small car park at the back, is located on avenida de Pescia at the roundabout which takes you down to the Parador.

Not quite as big as the other three, but still a pretty good size. It is only foodstuffs and is the place to go if you are looking for the more unusual UK products like Cranberry jelly or strong white flower for example, although such items do carry a premium price.

Price-wise, and purely considering normal, everyday foodstuffs, the cheapest would tend to be Mercadona and the most expensive would be Iranzo.
