Angél Herrera Oria
Angél Herrera Oria was born in 1886 in the town of Santander. During his
early career he was a journalist but in 1947 he was appointed Bishop of
Málaga.
He was responsible for much social work throughout the province and in
1965 was elevated to Cardinal. Amongst other things, he established a
Women’s Teacher Training School in Calle Málaga, Nerja. The building was
demolished in the 1980's and the site is now occupied by Edificio Las
Palmeras. Angél Herrera Oria died in 1968.
