No Blue Flags for Nerja

A new ruling by ADEAC, the organisation responsible for the awarding of the prestigious ‘Blue Flags’, means that none of the beaches in Nerja are eligible for consideration this year.

Blue Flag ceremony held in Marbella

Marbella was the location on Friday morning of a ceremony to hand over the 91 Blue Flags awarded to beaches in Andalucia for 2013. The event was attended by Mayors and Councillors from 31 municipalities in five provinces of Andalucia. Burriana and Torrecilla beaches in Nerja were once again awarded Blue Flag status.

Blue Flags 2012

Spain has been awarded a total of 638 Blue Flags, 540 for beaches and 98 for marinas, a new record which puts Spain at the top of the list of 46 participating states in the northern hemisphere.

Four Blue Flags for Nerja

Blue flags have once more been awarded to Burriana, Torrecilla, El Playazo and Maro beaches, the third consecutive year that all four beaches have received the award.

Two more blue flags

This year, Nerja has increased its number of ‘blue flag’ beaches from two to four, with Maro and El Playazo now joining regular recipients Burriana and Torrecilla.

21 blue flags for Málaga

There are 21 ‘blue flag’ beaches in Málaga province this year, two less than last year, and in the region of Andalucia, Málaga ranks second only to Cádiz with 24 blue flags.

Praise for Nerja beaches

The president of the Environmental and Consumer Education Association, José Sánchez Moro, who, along with the European Foundation for Environmental Education, award the ‘blue flags’ to beaches, has written to the mayor of Nerja to congratulate the municipality on the state of its beaches.

Five is good

With the addition this year of Playa de Cabopino, Marbella now proudly flies five of the prestigious ‘Blue Flags’ for the first time in its history.
