Fancy a flutter? Horse racing on the Costa del Sol

The Hipódromo Costa del Sol is located just outside La Cala de Mijas, Mijas Costa. It has two tracks, with floodlighting for night racing, grandstand accommodation for 5000 spectators and trackside seating for a further 5000.

The Hipódromo has numerous facilities, such as restaurants, bars and entertainment for children, and not only just on race days. It is also the venue for show jumping and dressage events, music concerts, athletics meetings and much more. There is even a dog hotel where you can leave your pooch while you go off and enjoy the races!

Night-time racing, from 10pm, takes place during June, July, August and September. From October to May, daytime racing takes place every other Sunday, starting at 11am.

Upcoming races are currently scheduled to take place on February 25th, March 3rd, 10th, 17th, 24th, 31st, April 7th, 14th, 21st, 28th and May 5th.

San Lucar de Barrameda

Not to be missed are the famous horse races on the beaches of San Lucar de Barrameda, C'adiz province, during the month of August.

Horse races along the seaside town's famous beach are now an international event with horses from many European countries taking part. The races take place along the beach at the mouth of the river Guadalquivir and were the first-ever regulated horse races in Spain. Riders wear colours and caps and the distances covered are 1500 and 1800 metres.
