Former mayor gets four years jail

The former mayor of Andratx, Eugenio Hidalgo, has been sentenced to four years in prison after being found guilty of corruption.

Hidalgo tried to build a house on agricultural land using a license for extending an agricultural storehouse. The former director-general of planning, Jaume Massot, was also sent to prison, his sentence being two and a half years.

A third defendant, Jaume Gibert, received a four month jail term as an accomplice. The prosecution had initially requested a 6 month term for Gibert but reduced their demands after he co-operated with the authorities regarding the case.
