As part of ‘Operación Arcos’, the investigation into corruption which has seen the arrest of the Mayor of Alcaucín and twelve other people, Guardia Civil officers have been carrying out various hose searches.
At the home of the Mayor they discovered €160,000 in cash hidden under a mattress. The Mayor says that this money is his ‘life savings’.
Police also searched a further 11 properties and, in Cartaya, Huelva, at the home of one of the promoters implicated in the scandal, they found €60,000 in cash.
