Protest against bullfighting

Around 300 protesters gathered near La Maestranza, Sevilla, to demand the abolition of bullfighting. The protests coincide with the start of the Feria de Abril (April Fair) in the city.

The protesters were carrying banners such as:

Tortura, ni arte ni cultura

Torture, neither art nor culture

and

¿Toros? Con mis impuestos no

Bulls? Not with my taxes

The Andalucian Collective against Animal Abuse also object to the fact that the Junta de Andalucia plans to spend €3.2 million this year on promoting or subsidising such acts of animal ‘torture’, money they say could be far better utilised, particularly during an economic crisis. They say the money would, for example, provide free books for all students.
