A 51 year old man is in custody in La Orotava, Tenerife, on suspicion of killing his girlfriend.
The police were called after it was reported that a man had fallen from the third floor balcony of a building in La Oratava. Upon entering the home of the man, police discovered the lifeless body of his 49 year old girlfriend.
All the signs indicated that the woman had died as a result of violence. There was apparently no prior record of domestic violence within the household.
The detainee is in a critical condition at the Hospital Universitario de Canarias.
