Minor spat as electioneering begins

The run-up to elections are always the same, claims and counter claims, vague promises by the bucketful, last-minute projects, spats and much posterior osculation by all concerned as they vie for votes. Provides for amusement, if nothing else.

The Councillor for Education and Culture, Angélica Portillo, has denied an accusation by the opposition PSOE leader, Ángel Ramírez, that he was denied the use of the Nerja Cultural Centre.

According to the Councillor, Ángel Ramírez submitted a written request to use the Nerja Cultural Centre but giving only 24 hours notice. The Councillor stated that Ángel Ramírez was offered the multi-purpose room for the whole of Friday or the auditorium up until it was scheduled for use by Teatrómica for two shows scheduled months in advance and attended by 700 young people.

The Councillor added that attempts had been made to reschedule the shows but that this was not possible.

As a last dig, the Councillor said that the leader of the socialists, as a Councillor, should have been well aware of scheduled events at the Nerja Cultural Centre.
