Thousands of dead fish in Béznar reservoir

Thousands of dead fish have been found floating in the Béznar reservoir and the provincial Department of Environment has started an investigation to determine he cause.

The fish develop whiteish spots and then die and locals say that this has happened on a few occasions in recent years. Local residents are concerned because the reservoir water is intended for human consumption. Reasons for the occurrence could be a lack of oxygen in the water, proliferation of algae or the spread of bacteria.

Most of the dead fish are carp, perch, catfish and trout.
