Medics of the Emergency Services in Madrid managed to save the baby of a pregnant woman who was shot dead in a church in Ciudad Lineal by carrying out a Caesarean section on the woman.
At around 20:00 on Thursday evening, a man apparently entered the Santa María del Pinar parish church in calle del Jazmín and pulled out a gun. He shot the pregnant woman in the head, seriously injured another woman in the church and then turned the gun on himself and committed suicide.
When police arrived on the scene the pregnant woman was already in cardiac arrest and a Caesarean section was carried out to try and save the life of the fetus.
The other injured woman is now in the Hospital La Paz. Her injuries are said to be serious.
