Residents of Villar de Cañas happy to have nuclear waste storage facility

Residents in Villar de Cañas, Cuenca, are reportedly very happy to see the small town of 500 inhabitants become the site for a Centralised Temporary Storage (ACT) facility for nuclear waste.

Villar de Cañas, ruled by the PP, stands to benefit to the tune of around €6 million per year if the facility is built in the town and the local government has been lobbying for such a decision for over two years.

However, socialists in the area are radically opposed to such a project and the provincial secretary of the PSOE in Cuenca, Martínez Guijarro, has said that his party will support any organised platform opposing the storage of nuclear waste in the town.
