Man dies in Benalmádena after being subdued by police

A 36 year old man died on Sunday at a hotel in Benalmádena after being subdued by a group of Local Police officers.

Police received a call from the hotel to say that a guest was upset and acting violently and threatening to throw himself down the stairwell. The officers tried to stop the man, originally from Ceuta but living in Algeciras, from carrying out his threats.

There was a long struggle, the burly individual resisting strongly and causing injuries to two officers before being eventually subdued. However, while pinned down by the officers he became ill and, it is thought, suffered a heart attack and died.

It is also suspected that the individual was under the influence of narcotics but police are awaiting the results of the autopsy to determine exactly what happened.
