Police in the Portada Alta district of Málaga have arrested a man who left a four year old child on his own. The child had to be rescued after fire broke out in the home.
The parents of the child were working and had left the four year old in the care of his grandfather. However, neighbours were alerted by the cries of the child and the smell of smoke and two of them managed to retrieve the child, injuring themselves in the process.
The grandfather had apparently gone on an errand and left the boy alone in the apartment and while he was gone a fire started. The suspicion is that the young boy himself was responsible for the fire, some reports saying that he was clutching a lighter when rescued.
The grandfather has been arrested.
