Contrary to announcements made in October 2011 by the Ministry of Environment that there was no funding available for the Nerja sewage plant project due to the financial crisis, the Ministry now says that funding is available and that it is only pending ‘administrative proceedings’ which are preventing the project from being put out to tender.
The Mayor of Nerja held a meeting with the Secretary of State for Environment, the second high level meeting within one week, in which the Ministry reaffirmed its ‘commitment’ to pursue this ‘priority project’ at the ‘fastest pace possible’.
After the meeting, the Mayor of Nerja was said to be ‘cautiously optimistic’.
