A very tense final day of La Liga for quite a few clubs with relegation and European placings still to be decided before play began at 20:00. At the end of the day, Villarreal were relegated along with Sporting Gijón and Racing Santander, Málaga took the fourth Champions League spot and Atlético Madrid and Levante qualified for the Europa League next season.
Málagab beat Sporting 1-0 to clinch the fourth Champions League spot with a 49th minute goal from Rondón. Mallorca, hopeful of a Europa League spot next season, were soundly beaten by champions Real Madrid, 4-1. Ronaldo, Benzema and Ozil with two were the scorers for Real, Castro finding the target for the islanders.
