Another group preying upon the elderly

There are reports of people  purporting to be from the World Health Organisation visiting homes in the area, particularly those belonging to the elderly, and telling the occupants that the water in the town contains lead and is not fit for drinking. Obviously a prelude to a sales pitch for water filters or the like, no doubt offered at a hugely inflated price.

According to Aguas Narixa, the joint venture company responsible for the water supply in Nerja, such statements are untrue and the water is perfectly fit for human consumption.

The water supply is tested daily, with 5,000 analyses having been made in the past year at accredited laboratories and all proving satisfactory and in compliance with Royal Decree 140/2003 of February 7th.

Details of tests on the water supply are available at the Aguas de Narixa offices in calle Málaga for anyone to see and can also be seen on the Ministry of Health website http://sinac.msc.es/

Water quality is the responsibility of the Health Authority and in the case of any suspected problems, it would be this body that took action, such as declaring the water unfit for consumption.
