Worrying spate of thefts in Alhaurín el Grande

Alhaurín el Grande Council is requesting a meeting with central government representatives to discuss a spate of robberies in the municipality in recent times, one of the main objectives being to try and get an increase in the number of Guardia Civil officers in the area.

As in other municipalities, the theft of copper wire from municipal electrical systems is rife and over 12,300 metres have disappeared. This has left many areas without public lighting, including the La Rosa industrial area and on the Mijas road between the Cristo de las Agonías hermitage and the Venta de los Morenos roundabout.

The theft of copper has left the Council with an €85,536 bill to replace the cables.

There have also been an unspecified, but more than ‘one or two’ according to the Council, house burglaries as well as vehicles being set on fire and manhole covers being removed.
