Guardia Civil divers have recovered the bodies of two teenage girls from the Valmayor reservoir in El Escorial, Madrid.
The two girls, aged 13 years and 14 years, were cousins and were enjoying a family day out when they disappeared from sight while in the water near the shore to cool off. Bathing is prohibited in all the reservoirs in Madrid except for San Juan.
The girls, Ecuadorian nationals but soon to become naturalised Spanish, could not swim. The bodies were located about ten metres from the shore at a depth of eight metres.
