Restricted use of mobiles for train drivers

The Minister for Public Works, Ana Pastor, has announced a series of measures relating to the railway sector and the implementation of a single channel of communication with the train driver, banning the use of mobile phones except in emergencies.

The Minister stated that she is also looking at the installation of ‘black box’ recorders in the cabins of all trains, these to record both the route being travelled as well as what happens in the cabin, similar to the system used in aircraft.

The Ministry has reached an agreement with three manufactures to carry out tests on navigation systems, these to start immediately and continue until April 30th 2014.
