Police in Jaén are investigating the theft of €4,000 from the Iglesia de Belén y San Roque, money destined for local soup kitchens and other social works.
The thieves entered through the belltower and made their way through the choir room, breaking a window along the way, and then into the sacristy after breaking the lock on the door.
This is apparently the fifth such robbery at the church, begging the question as to why large amounts of cash continue to be kept on the premises.
