Earth Hour comes to Torrox

Torrox Council has decided to join ‘Earth Hour’ (Saturday from 20:30 to 21:30) with the implementation of measures to save on energy costs and is urging residents to join in as well as promoting responsible ebergy consumption habits throughout the year.

Proposed job creation scheme in Torrox

The Councillor for Employment, Lauren Salvatierra (PSOE), is proposing a new Employment Plan  aimed at encouraging the hiring of employees and the creation of new businesses.

Torrox on the SICTED trail

Torrox Council is endeavouring to promote the SICTED certification system (Spanish Tourism Quality System) so that local companies can obtain a ‘quality certificate’ for their services. The SICTED system covers such concepts quality, competitiveness, profitability and sustainability.

Council sets up Citizen Social Network

Torrox Council has set up the Citizen Social Network, a group of volunteers who will collect and distribute basic necessities to the more needy in the community.

Improvements to existing courts

The delays with the new Palace of Justice in Torrox, still suffering from planning problems, has apparently prompted the Junta de Andalucia to announce improvement works to the current facility in order to remove architectural barriers, install lifts and resolve problems with moisture in the building.

Changes to rules relating to the Occupation of Public Roads

Torrox Council has approved an amendment to the municipal ordinance relating to the Occupation of Public Roads which will affect the installation of furniture and other items relating to entrepreneurial activity in public spaces.

Commission of Inquiry into Local Police in Torrox

All parties represented on Torrox Council (PSOE, PP, IU, PIU and PSA) have formally initiated the first ever commission of inquiry in the history of the municipality, the aim being to address the internal and external problems within the Local Police which have been ongoing for several years now.

Interruption to water supply on Thursday January 31st 2013

Repairs to the Plan Guaro water supply network will cause cuts in supply in parts of Torrox between 09:00 and 21:00 on Thursday January 31st, namely in Peñoncillo (Sector URP-3, UE 2, UE 16 and urbanisation Calaceite.

Road safety programme for Primary pupils

Torrox Town Hall has started a road safety programme aimed at Primary school pupils. The course has started at the colegio Mare Nostrum and aims to involve all pupils in the municipality, some 1,500 in total.

Damage to indoor pool leads to energy savings

Repairs being carried out on the La Granja municipal indoor swimming pool, which had only been open a few months before being damaged by the storms on September 29th 2012, will apparently allow the Council to save €20,000 per year on electricity costs.
