Faiçal Britit and Cristóbal Ortigosa, both members of Club Nerja de Atletismo-Cueva de Nerja-UMA, took first and second places in the provincial cross-country championships held at the weekend in San Pedro de Alcantara.
Nerja a hit with athletes
In the past four years, the number of Northern European athletes using the facilities at the Enrique López Cuenca Sports Stadium has grown considerably, with over 1,000 expected during the current season.
Nerja attracting more and more athletes
Nerja has become quite a popular destination for various sporting teams or individual athletes to come and train, especially during the winter months. In the run-up to Easter, there were athletes from Britain, Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Sweden and Poland, amongst others, using the facilities at the Enrique López Cuenca Stadium.
More success for Nerja athletes
Club Nerja de Atletismo Cueva de Nerja-UMA were runners-up in the European Junior Cross-country Club Championships at the Parque Echevarría in Bilbao. Turkish club Fenerbahce were winners for the second year in a row and Sparta A.M. of Denmark finished third.
