Jerez Council to pay compensation to dismissed employees

Jerez Council has opted to pay compensation for unfair dismissal to 260 employees rather than reinstatement following a ruling by the Supreme Court of Justice in Andalucia. However, the Council has announced its intention to appeal the decision and they will not actually pay anything until their appeal has been heard.

Employees of the municipal company Respuestas Auxiliares in Jerez, responsible for the cleaning of schools and municipal buildings, have called an indefinite strike as from February 10th due to the situation whereby workers have not received all of their December and January salaries.

Members of the workers’ committee of Urbaser, the municipal cleaning company in Jerez  de la Frontera, walked out of a meeting with management after fifteen minutes, accusing them of provocation and not bringing anything to the negotiating table.

Burning rubbish containers in Jerez

The Fire Brigade in Jerez was called out to 30 fires in rubbish containers throughout the city last night as the strike by Urbaser employees continues. In the Mopu district, residents threw stones at the Fire Brigade to try and stop them putting out the fires.
