End of lifeguard season

The lifeguard service on Nerja’s beaches has now ended after the official summer season. Despite huge numbers of jellyfish, there were relatively few serious incidents on the beaches during the summer.

The Council has approved the administrative procedures relating to the recruitment of lifeguards for the summer season. The deadline for applications is May 10th 2013.

Lifeguards to receive extra payment

The Association of Municipalities of the Costa del Sol Axarquia has accepted a claim by lifeguards in the municipality for an extra payment of €120 ‘danger money’. The lifeguards have now all signed a document agreeing to carry out first aid and rescue duties if necessary.

Two lifeguards were hired without having the necessary qualifications

Following a study into accusations that several lifeguards were hired without having the necessary qualifications, the Mayor has relieved the coordinator for Operational Services of his duties and recommended to the Association of Municipalities of the Costa del Sol Axarquia that the contracts of two lifeguards be cancelled.

Councillors meet with lifeguards

Members of the Council have been meeting with municipal beach lifeguards to address several concerns raised during the past couple of weeks, mainly relating to conditions of employment.
